Good first book, expecting more from him in the future. It very nicely updates a classic and familiar story for modern readers, not sure if I would read them kids but its great for adults. Then again, classic fairy tales were kind of grim(m) before Disney got their hands on them, so he is keeping with tradition.Product details

Out of the Woods Berkeley Tales Book 1 eBook Anthony Neff Reviews
5-Stars for Out of the Woods with a whole new look at fairy tales. This imaginative novel creates interesting characters and follows a romance that would not have blossomed in the original fairy tale. It is surprising but it works! I so enjoy the dialogue and interactions of the couple as their relationship develops. I found myself wrapped up in their story and I want to see them "live happily ever after!"
I especially like Anthony Neff's creativity as he places this this tale in present day Berkeley, CA. Most of the characters are college students caught up in a battle with real mystical evil entities.
Drawbacks There are no descriptions of sexually intimate encounters as they are left to the imagination. I do enjoy some romantic scenes short of graphic erotica. This does make the novel "comfortable" for a wider range audience as it is a novel that just happens to have a gay couple as the main characters.
The other drawback is that this book appears to be part 1 of a series. The reader is not informed when the sequel will be published and how many books may be in the complete series. It will be disappointing to get this involved in part 1 and for part 2 to never get published. Note to Anthony Neff Let the reader know when to expect the sequel!
I recommend this book to readers that like fantasy in a contemporary setting. I enjoyed this book on its own as it is long enough with enough character building, plot development and action to be satisfying. That said, I would still like to see how the story wraps up.
If you are a stickler for resolution, you may want to wait until the series is completed. Having said that, if there are not enough readers of the first book, Anthony Neff may lose the incentive to complete the series. As I would like to see a sequel --- buy Out of the Woods as there is power in numbers.
